Tourism to Maui halted

The Hawaii Tourism Authority is extremely concerned about the safety of travellers visiting West Maui after a devastating wildfire tore through the area. Given the current situation, we strongly advise against leisure trips to the region and recommend that you reschedule your travel plans accordingly. The Aloha State has reported that over 46,000 travellers have already left the island in response to requests from tourism authorities to evacuate.

To safeguard your safety, over 50 hotels and resorts in popular regions like Kaanapali, Kahana, Napili, Kapalua, and Honokowai are no longer taking bookings. In addition, human resources and logistics are scarce, resulting in disruptions in communication lines, poor road conditions, and inconsistent electrical supplies. Unfortunately, many businesses, including restaurants, petrol stations, and shops, have had to close.

While some parts of West Maui remain unscathed by the wildfire, many businesses rely on tourism for revenue and have been adversely impacted. However, other islands such as Kaua’I, O’ahu, Lānaʻi, and Hawaiʻi Island are open and fully operational. Therefore, we encourage you to visit these unspoiled destinations in Hawaii for a safe and memorable holiday experience.
