Church of Uganda Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu led as Queen Mutesi formally started her phenomenal transition from ordinary to wife of a sovereign for Busoga’s 11 chiefdoms.
The Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, and Jovia Mutesi have exchanged marriage vows.
This during a colourful ceremony held on Saturday afternoon at Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja.
The function, which attracted powerful officials from Busoga kingdom and government of Uganda, was held under tight security.
Thousands of Basoga lined the streets to have a glimpse of Queen Mutesi as she was chauffeured in a convoy of luxury cars to the Cathedral.
Mutesi is the daughter of Stanley Bayoole, the RDC of Bulambuli district who also served as the former Mayor of Mayuge town council.
The solemnization of her marriage marked the beginning of Mutesi’s journey as the Inebantu of Busoga – the title given to the queen consort to the Kyabazinga of Busoga.
The last Inhebantu was Alice Muloki, who died on November 6, 2005. On September 7, 2023, the Busoga Kingdom announced Jovia Mutesi as the Inebantu of the Kingdom (Queen of Busoga).
Following the service, the couple will hold a reception, providing an opportunity for members of the public to see them and join in with the celebrations.
At the event, President Museveni was represented by Vice President, Hon Jessica Alupo.
